HP Pavilion DV6-1280US 16-Inch Entertainment Laptop

This laptop delivers especially for the price. 64 bit Vista with upgrade to Windows 7 included, Turion X2 64 Ultra dual core mobile processor rocks, 1Gb dedicated graphics memory and up to nearly 3Gb with memory sharing on a Radeon HD 4650 stand alone video card, WiFi a,b,g,n and bluetooth built in, 6 Gb DDR2 RAM, 500Gb HD, Bright View screen is super clear, built in scrolling on the synaptics touch pad, if you use a mouse you can turn the touch pad off and more. I've been playing EQ2 online and playing music CDs both at the same time with no problems. This machine will run high end games. The only things I don't like about it is the 5400rpm HD which is not really that big of a deal and especially all of the preloaded software offers and trials that took me two days to identify and remove.

HP TouchSmart TX2-1270US 12.1-Inch Laptop

I wanted a laptop that would replace my four year old 17 inch Gateway. I liked my old laptop but wanted something smaller. I looked at netbooks but they didn't have enough power for my needs. I like an occasional game or two. I went to a computer store and played with their laptops for a while and liked the HP Touchsmart. The model that they had displayed was one with a 320 Gig hard drive and it had a 12.1 inch screen anp only weighed a little more than four pounds. It also was a tablet PC which was intriguing with 4 gigs of memory. The feature that I found desirable was the touchscreen. It fascinated me and made on screen selections so much easier. It also came with a remote and a stylus.I tried it and I liked it.

So when I arrived home I checked Amazon.com and HP's website. I discovered that there was a model of the TouchSmart with 500 gigs of storage. I was sold. Hp offered a lower price but Amazon had a [...] dollar rebate which brought the cost below what Hp offered. They both offered free shipping. I purchased from Amazon and received my new laptop in two days. I am very satisfied with its performance.

HP Pavilion DV7-1450US 17-Inch Entertainment Laptop

I just purchased the HP Pavilion DV7-1450US 17-Inch. We got it at Staples (though I usually get my computers from Amazon) for $599!!!

Admittedly, I was skeptical about a laptop so cheap being any good since most of the ones we have are in the $1,500 to $2,500 range. Surprisingly, this laptop grows on you from the moment you open it up. It's a beautiful looking piece of work and as nice as our HP HDX, Sony Vaio and other HP laptops we have.

The screen is bright and readable. Disk drive is large. Processor is very zippy with Vista 64bit.

I immediately gutted it and installed a production version of Windows 7 on it and the whole process toook about 1/2 hour. End result? This machine runs like a bat out of hell right now!!!

Not too heavy, great screen, exceptional keyboard that is very easy to read and better than the other four laptops we have all costing double or more, great network card which connected easily to both our home and office wireless networks at N speeds...

I am still wondering how HP did this? A great value for the price and I'm not quick to give glowing reviews (read some of my other ones)...

By the way, a full keyboard with numeric pad is so convenient. Very happy!

HP Mini 1033CL Notebook

0

It is hard to believe that HP and other netbook makers packed so many features into such a small package. This HP netbook is a little bigger than the average DVD case. It is TINY...and slim too. At 2lbs and some change, you can carry this thing all day long and not even notice the weight.

The features in the 1033CL match up with other netbooks on the market. The hard drive is a bit smaller than average - 60GB v/s 120GB. This model comes with 1GB RAM v/s 2GB RAM on most Vista-enabled netbooks. Not deal breakers by any means...but savy shoppers can get more bang for their netbook dollars.

Now, let's talk about this netbook. The keyboard is darn near full-sized which makes touch typing possible. I crank out 80wpm on a regular keyboard and can get near that speed on this netbook. There are a few compromises though. The touchpad has buttons on either side v/s on top like most netbooks and laptops. The arrow keys are smaller than regular keys. There is no dedicated home key and now requires two keys be pressed (fn-left arrow). Most people won't notice it but power users might have an issue.

The speaker sits directly above the keyboard and sounds great! Some laptops and netbooks put the speakers under the unit or in the palmrest (so your hand covers it!) but HP got it right. Volume is loud and sound is full. Not tinny.

The 1033CL has plenty of ports. Power, USB, headphone/mic, and Ethernet are on the left. Another USB port and a smartcard slot are on the right. The front has buttons for power and for turning off the wireless network card. (great for saving power)

Speaking of power, this netbook comes with a 3cell battery. It is good for quick trips but if you want long-term power, shoot for a 6 cell battery or better. The battery compartment is in the bottom of the unit for easy access. RAM can also be upgraded via the bottom of the unit.

The display is very crisp. 10.2 inches sounds small but the Windows XP resolution is 1024x600 so it's bigger than expected. Movies look great on it. The display has the a reflective coating on it (don't remember technical name).

A few minor annoyances with this netbook. The webcam requires a lot of background light just to get a half-way decent picture. There is a port for an external monitor but the dongle for it wasn't included in the box. HP charges extra for it. The touchpad includes a generous space for scrolling. Almost too generous. About 3/4 of an inch of the touchpad is reserved for scrolling down a page. Fortunately, it can be adjusted using software.

Overall, the 1033CL is a fun netbook. It isn't the fastest or packed with the most features but the crisp display, the almost full-sized keyboard, and the audio make this unit stand out among competitors. I'm happy I bought it. The portability of it is just addictive. I take it to the kitchen, the bedroom, the garage, the front porch, backyard and more.

So I just received my Compaq laptop today and it's amazing. Fast, no lag, bright screen, works great. I've installed Google Chrome and AIM and they work flawless. The keypad is amazingly comfortable. No webcam and the HDMI slot is covered which aren't a big deal for me. I don't see why people give this laptop such a bad review, but I've only been playing with it for 3 hours so more on this review in the future.

5101 N280 160/1 Gb Pc

I've owned a netbook since April '08 when I bought one of the first mass market Asus EeePC Surf models. It was a useful travel tool, light, easy to store and secure, but it lacked two things.. screen size and an adult size keyboard. The HP Mini 5101 covers both those issues and more.

I've had the 5101 for a week now, and been on my first trip with it. No complaints. Keyboard feels great, good key action. Metal case (aluminum and magnesium) feels solid without being weighty. The power brick is the same as the one my work laptop (also HP) uses, so I can even use that in a pinch when the 6 hrs of battery life runs out. Wireless is great; I picked up wifi points my smaller netbook never saw at the same hotels and airports.

If you're looking for a solid work class netbook, I strongly recommend this one.

I don't know about the other reviewer's experience, but I can say that I love everything about this computer. The screen is bright and the colors are vivid. I have listened to other laptop speakers, and these sound very good. The keyboard is wonderful to type on. I had to uninstall some bloatware, but that was expected. Will upgrade to a 12 cell battery as soon as I can afford to. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a well made machine. Read the specs listed above and you will find that this machine has everything you would want in a laptop or desktop replacement. Con: somewhat large and slightly heavy, but then again your going to carry it in a bag anyways!

HP ProBook 5310m - Core 2 Duo SP9300 / 2.26 GHz

0

First, let me explain my criteria. I was looking for a thin and light full functioning notebook with more power than a netbook (of which I've owned two) and less than $1000 (which was hard to find until now), with an integrated webcame (which most laptops come equipped with nowadays), and that could handle streaming video from sights like Hulu, netflix, etc. HP has gotten the combination just right. With a processor that beats the standard 1+ ghz in a netbook, a large 13.3" matte widescreen, weighing under 3.0lbs, and under a grand, the Probook 5310m is a great buy.

Pros: 2.26ghz processor
13.3" widescreen (1366x768)
2gb Ram expandable to 4gb
Extremely thin
Nice, slim, business look - eye catching
Quick access web and email buttons
Matte screen
Chicklet-layout style keyboard
Sturdy and stylish build
Average batter life - 4 hours w/ a balanced power setting (and yes, I've tested this!)
Great security software included

Cons: Runs warm (but not hot) when streaming/watching video (most laptops do however)
Fan is sometimes loud
No VGA out port (requires a displayport to VGA adapter)

I've owned the Probook 5310m for just over two weeks now and have used it everyday! Overall, this machine has done exactly what I've needed it to do. The keyboard is very comfortable to type on. The speakers are weak, but that's to be expected. I rarely use the unit speakers any way. The sound is more than sufficient through headphones or connected to my LCD TV.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional and operating multiple screens at a time is a cinch. I've also done video editing on this computer. Although not as snappy as my desktop, the Probook 5310m handled it just fine and without hickups.

The Probook 5310m does not come with an optical (dvd) drive, but thin external drives are avaiable nowadays for around $50 bucks. Since I rarely use a dvd drive I was actually looking for a system without one to keep the weight down.

So, for the money you're paying this notebook is a great package. If it fits your needs, I highly recommend it. BTW, it's great for students and frequent travelers. I did some video and document editing while traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday and found it a very easy experience.

Outstanding buy for the money. Had everything I needed and expected. I research high and low to find the computer that had as many as the new features I needed within my budget and this model exceeded my expectations. Most other similar models will cost more than $100 and up.

Only negatives I have is some of the software installed is "Trial" versions from "Microsoft and Adobe". And they are expensive to buy! Thought I was getting the full versions or at least the basic versions. I simply installed the older software I already owned and problem solved. Not a fan of Vista but I'll live with it. I should be getting a free upgrade to the newest OS version but I didn't see it offered. Not actual "recovery disks" but 10GB is set aside for recovery or you can make your own!

For "HP" the computer fits my needs exactly and so far no complaints there. Large 17" screen, large 320GB HD, fast graphics, and surprisingly light weight (6.6 lbs actually less) compared to the older 17" model I had that weighed 9 pounds! I like the sleek and stylish design. It very quiet you can't hear the fans. Also the speaker volume could be louder, but it's adequate. With everything going USB it could use a couple more ports than just the three it has but an add-on will solve that. Built in camera and speaker works very well with "Skype". Even with the conveniently located "headset" connectors in the front I don't need too use a headset unless I want some privacy. Software for it has some funny graphics you can have fun with too.

Since my Dell laptop is seven years old, I've been looking for a replacement for the last few months. There are so many options that it was hard to make a choice. Since I bought a Sony Vaio for my wife recently - the VGN-NW270F, I had a good laptop to compare to this HP DV4.

You basically have two general choices to make: do you want a powerful laptop that can do lots of things, but has a shorter batter life or do you want a lighter less powerful laptop which has an extended life. I went with the power laptop which the HP is.

In general, I'm very happy and impressed. The HP is a bit smaller - 14" vs 15.6", but I actually prefer the smaller form factor. The 15.6 is more a desktop replacement size. They both have the same 320 GB hard drive and plenty of other ports and 4 GB or ram. I wanted an HDMI port and both have this feature. When you connect the HP to my 42" TV the screen looks sharp and stunning. I can now watch internet video and ripped movies on my big screen. One feature the Sony has is the ability to play Blue Ray disks, but since I don't own any of those, it's not a factor.

The HP does have a nice Recovery partition and a few other features, but I don't use them. The Sony has a better metal body, keyboard and track pad area (I use a real mouse.), but the HP is ok.

Windows 7 is a joy to work with and even though I bought a manual, I haven't had to crack it open yet. I've gone from XP to Windows 7 without a hitch.

Pros
Fast bootup and performance
One click to turn wireless on and off.
Fantastic HDMI video to home TV

Cons
Case and keyboard not as nice as Sony Vaio.
Track area doesn't have the nice feel of a Sony
A little bit of junkware you need to uninstall.

I purchased this Laptop on August 26th and it arrived on August 28th; very speedy free shipping
from Amazon I must say.

This laptop is everything I thought it would be; it is extremely fast and while it is too soon
to evaluate it I am satisfied with it.

It came with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit installed and is eligible for Windows7 upgrade
The Intel Core Duo 2.1 GHz processor and the 4GB Memory make it very quick;
this notebook also has a relatively large 320GB 7200 rpm hard drive

It is worth much more than the $649.99 price I paid for it on Amazon shipping included

I have had little or no problems with Hewlett-Packard since I started using HP product ,Laptops,
Desktops, Printer and Scanner many years ago.

All in all good value for money

If you want to know if this computer can get you online while on the road, listen to music, watch movies and just plain rock your world, then I am your man. I pulled this thing out of the box about 2 weeks ago and fired it up. I bought a router so I could use it anywhere at home. I have had no issues with it and the fact is it is much faster then my HP desktop. All preinstalled software works perfectly and the picture quality while watching video is perfect. One of our departments just bought a few of these and this is the first netbook I encountered without a glossy screen. Until now, many consumer laptops and all netbooks were on my you-know-what-list because of their highly reflective screens that make them look fancy, but also make them practically unusable in high light, and/or when you have a source of light behind you. Kudos to HP for saving people's eyes.

HP Pavilion DV6-1361SB 15.6-Inch Black Laptop

Having carefully read the reviews here, I purchased this HP laptop - replacing my earlier ancient but still robust HP DV1000...

1. This laptop is surprisingly light - even with the battery for a 15". The design is sleek though I would have preferred not to have bought the circular panel designs (no choice with this [higher] specs).
2. The screen is nice but strangely the default fonts are definitely somewhat fuzzy especially below the top of the screen. I bought an ACER Aspire 2930 for my wife : the fonts are much nicer, sharper and clearer and ACER screen is brighter, even on a mere 12" screen! Good for aging eyes.
3.The sound quality from the HP Altec Lansing is surprisingly disappointing : once again the ACER 2930's Dolby Home Theatre sound is superior being more spaced out (HP's so called Premium SRS is bunched up) and giving a nicer film experience. My old HP DV1000 has easily the most robust and pleasing sound (also Altec Lansing but better quality - I expected otherwise)! HP's speaker loudness is ok: not exceptional but adequate.
4.I am not too enamoured with the HP keyboard: the tactile response is ok but the rationale of having shiny black "slippery" surface of buttons is baffling. Other laptops tend to have mattish surfacing which lends to more grip. Both earlier HPs and my current ACER have much nicer surface feel and one does not have the feeling of "slipping off". The area where you rest your hand, while spacious, feels somewhat tacky and gets warm from a few hours of use - maybe handy in winter. In an Asian climate, this laptop definitely emits more heat, noticeably, than I would expect.
5. I almost missed buttons for Bluetooth/Wifi (ON/OFF) on the keyboard - only to realise that you just press the plastic! The cursor movement buttons below the Enter button area tends to be abit too small. Other laptops have onboard buttons for DVD controls (on this, these are tacked onto Fn+F9-12), browser etc. but HP has gone for a minimalist design... Ok but abit more functionality is better especially when Wifi signals fail and one has to double check whether the adaptors are on or off etc.
6. The fingerprint reader works well.
7. There is a good number of USB ports (4), HDMI etc. so this was a factor in my purchase. This laptop is very quiet though when the DVD drive is working it tends to vibrate abit more than expected of other machines.
8. There are various LED lights (7?) dotted about but these are rather boringly white (ON). A few like Wifi alternate between red and blue. A little colour for different signals would have been nicer.

Overall, this IS a nice laptop but I am puzzled with several aspects of HP's exterior design.

The tech performance is well detailed in other reviews and I am going by these, with no reason to be cautious.

I would add that originally my DV 1000 was about $1300, whereas for $950 this represent very good value, though perhaps not of the same quality, alas.

At $649 after rebate I think this laptop hits a real sweet spot in the 13" market! I've had it for a week now and am really enjoying it. I also purchased a Samsung slim DVD writer since this mahcine doesn't include an optical drive.

Pros:

- Runs very cool with the Intel processor - have never had the fan kick on
- No problem streaming video, and has an HDMI for for your HDTV
- Best looking notebook for the price
- Very fast and quiet hdd
- I have to admit I really am enjoying Windows 7 - I skipped the whole Vista thing
- The back lit LED screen is beautiful
- With 4GB RAM the system multi-taks very well
- Battery Life - I get 5 to 6 hrs with my custom settings, cross country trips on a plane are now a reality
- The keyboard is great to type on, although the use of a fn key to use f1-f12 isn't for me

Cons:

- Quite a bit of crapware and bloatware to get rid of
- The track pad leaves something to be desired - buggy in that it sometimes locks up from resume or comes back as a magnifying glass. You can find out how to fix this in the forurms...

This device is a better option for those who are thinking to buy a netbook
as I wanted. There are some reasons I didn't bought a netbook:

- Almost all have 160 GB HD
- It has only 1gb ram, instead some that have 2gb
- Some have reduced keyboard
- They don't have dedicated video card

This HP-Dv2 has more good things like:

- It's also thin as netbooks
- It's only 2 inches bigger than netbooks
- It comes with an exteral usb dvd drive
- Good processor similar to the intel atom in netbooks
- More space 250GB HD
- Dedicated video card
- 2GB ram
- The price doesnt have a big difference comparing with netbooks cause
the aditional things and performance are compensated in the aditional
money. The external DVD drive is original HP, if it would be sold it
could cost like U$100.

Well those who are thinking in buying a netbook I recomend to you this DV2
the model is very nice and interesting.

I was looking for a laptop that would have the graphics features and speed of a desktop PC, and this is it! It handles my Adobe CS4 products and web design software beautifully. I bought the three-year warranty...expensive but I was told I'd be disappointed in support the first year otherwise. I plan to have this product a long time. It is sleek and beautiful. Finding a carrying case was a challenge, but the Toshiba 18.4" does the job. After much research and reading many reviews, I can see why there are very few complaints against this HP Pavilion!

This is one the best laptops that I ever had. Beautiful finish, nice diplay. I really like the keybord with the numpad.
Win7 runs smoothly on the hardware. I'm very impressed with the performance of the hardware. Things like the fast porcessor and the fast hard drive make thing easy with this machine, you can even play games with the GPU Radeon Card.
I didn't have the oportunity to play HD content but I'm sure that the DV61360 will handle it very easy.
Also I really like the HP advisor that's help you to keep you pc in good shape.

If it is true that is it a fingerprint and dust magnet, I don't know a fingerprint and dustproof laptop at this price. Aslo the battery is not bad considering the kind of hardware that this laptop has.

Nice Machine, no complains

So far this laptop has proven its worth. It's feature rich, has great specs for a laptop it's size and is very functional. Everything runs smoothly thanks to the decent processor and the relatively large amount of RAM.
The touchscreen is bright, vivid and responsive.
Battery life is satisfactory though, personally, I would prefer a 12 cell lithium-ion (but this can always be purchased separately).
Wi-fi is great with the inclusion of Wireless n technology (as well as b & g) allowing for faster wireless connection speeds.
320GB hard drive is a lot of storage space considering, for most people, the laptop won't be your main PC.
The new Windows 7 operating system offers many new and fun experiences, as well as the ability to perform tasks efficiently.
Integrated web-cam and mic allow for video conferencing on the go.
The fingerprint scanner is very cool and provides very stringent security for your system and even websites.
My only peeves with the product would be the fact that there are only 2 USB ports and the absence of Bluetooth.

In general, it's a great laptop/tablet PC and I doubt you'll feel cheated if you purchase it.

Update: The unit actually has 3 USB ports and it does tend to get fairly hot at times. The fan noise is tolerable; it really isn't THAT bad.

Check it out -- 4.2 lbs, 1" thick, Magnesium case, 7200 rpm HDD, spectacular HD display, 4 GB memory, 320 GB Hard Drive, Iconic keyboard Windows 7, 4 USB ports, HDMI port, great WiFi,etc. etc. All for under $600! It's astonishing. One begins to wonder what truck they steal these off of. Yes, my title is correct, "Macbook Killer." Look at the two machines side by side -- they are pretty much the same thing. Yes, the Macbook Pro has a backlit keyboard, ok. But the DM3 has an HDMI port, which means I can attach it to my HDTV and play Neflix or Itunes movies, or youtube, etc. in High Definition. Sure, it has no optical drive, but folks, cd's and dvd's are becoming old technology, and being replaced by thumb/jump drives. Even software will be coming on these. Actually, the DM3 weighs almsot a pound less than a Macbook by eliminating the optical drive, and the advantages of using an external drive are many. Keyboards are almost identical, case is a toss up, display's are similar, windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard has its plusses and minuses going both ways. Yes, the Macbook is more powerful for high intensity graphics, but if you are using your computer as most people do, you will not notice the difference. But the knockout comes at checkout: It is less than 1/2 the price of a similarly configured 13" Macbook Pro!

It is so far superior to any netbook that there is no comparison there. Yes, it's not perfect. It does re-charge slowly, and the trackpad takes some getting used to. But it has so many fantastic features, when you factor in the price, it is the best value out there in ultraportable computing.

I have been using portable computers since the mid-eighties when they were 25 pounds with tiny monochrome screens floppy drives and cost $3000. Now for under $600, they are 1/6th the weight, yet 100 times as fast with 3000 times the storage and much more functionality. Think about how amazing this is! You will love this little machine.

HP G61-320US 15.6-Inch Black/Silver Laptop

This laptop is probably too big for much carrying around, but if you are like me and just want a laptop for home use and occasionaly travel, this is a great deal. It is great for watching videos.
I also like the windows 7 that this has, although some of the windows features take some getting use to.
The key board is really great, numberical key pad plus the key stroke is light. The speakers are not as loud as I would like, but have ordered a separate speaker system for $12 so that really is not a problem. I have had this for less than a week, but so far I really like it, much nicer than my old compaq that was stolen.

I purchased the HP G60-237NR notebook PC in February for less than 550.00. This laptop has all the features and ports I needed. I have had good customer service from HP when I had questions. I have Vista and we bought this same laptop for my Mom last month at Amazon with the new Windows7. I would recommend this laptop for the average user. I use it for email, shopping the web, MS application software, Skype, LinkedIn, DVD play, and watching Hulu tv over the web. The volume was not loud enough to watch a DVD movie while on vacation in our RV so I bought small external speakers to plug in at a cost of less than $30.00.

I had bought a zd8000 series 17 inch laptop 5 years ago. And not had a single problem with it.
So I went back to HP for this model. The zd8000 is a p4 and cannot chomp high def video.

This computer, dv7 3060us can chomp/edit the high def video. You'll be able to hook up that 500 $ canon
high def camcorder to it and flow easily. Which is what I was looking for. Using magic edit movie pro 15
when I added 3D titles, it began to struggle and the cpu went to 100 %.
Hehehe, this is to be expected. Regular titles are no sweat. I'm having no probs with high def playback.

Came sealed in the box, which is a +++ Nothing cheeky.
I seen someone complain about the chrome touchpad in another review, believe me, its a non issue.
I see someone else complain about fingerprints, believe me, its also a non issue.

This computer is high tech looking, and when I compare it to my old zd8000 it sits lower
but is wider. My wrists are very happy with this lower position, good work HP.
Super wide comfortable keypad ....

I'm also using this laptop to do multi tracking with music, and so far, no hiccups for that.
Working like a dream for multi tracking.

Windows 7 on this will boot up in about a minute, which is very nice also.

For the money, its a great laptop, good update for me.

I decided it was time to upgrade my laptop and looked for several weeks for the right combination of price, hard drive, RAM, Bluetooth, battery, numeric keypad, etc. This laptop has it all. I thought my replacement laptop would be a second Mac since I bought a Mac for my wife six months ago. However with Windows 7 getting good reviews and a price one-third of the cost of an "equivalent" Mac, my decision was what PC did I want. The DV6-1350 has all the features I was looking for including the new DDR3 RAM instead of DDR2 and Bluetooth. I also like having the 12 cell battery pack attached. The extra "bump" on the bottom doesn't bother me. Ergonomically the keyboard is great. My last laptop was an HP and I am pleased with the reliability. I am really liking Windows 7 in it's functionality. It starts up almost instantly from sleep mode. This is great laptop at a very good price.

How can I express how incredible this machine is? Well let me try. Two weeks earlier I bought the Vista cousin of this machine that had a Pentium and only 1400/900 display (blech!) and it was a bit sluggish. After I saw an Office Depot flyer advertising this beauty for [...] with [...] rebate, I returned the Pentium to Best Buy, who didn't have this machine. This machine is a tremendous value. Huge hard drive, 4 gigs of ram, WONDERFUL keyboard (all the HPs have the best-engineered keyboards I have seen on any laptops, large and small). And 1600x900 instead of 1400x900 like some of the other models. I agree that the power cable should be on the left side, in fact on the one I returned it was. And yes, the speakers are underwhelming. But this is no "gaming rig", this is a business desktop replacement, period. Battery life? It says up to 4 hours by I get between 2.5 and 3 hours, and with the powersave mode, just a bit over 3 hours. The lesser cousin didn't even get 1.5 hours.

Ordered this over the weekend, what a superb machine i mean super quiet, really fast, doesn't heat up and has all the latest multimedia features. I removed the optical drive (slide and remove) and lost about half a pound on the weight. Battery is great gave me 3.5hrs. I don't have any complaints. Do yourself a favor and ignore the other two reviews. For $689 this is a steal.

I bought this on "Black Friday" but missed out on the $197 deal. I got it for $299, But still, I think I got a good deal. Amazon shipped it in 3 days and during the mean time, I read reviews where people said there wasn't any webcam. I've never had one and even though that would have been a great plus, I'm still happy with the computer. Hd quality screen, Windows 7 os, numeric keyboard. I was up and running in about an hour after copying my files from my external hd. I'm happy. I'm in school and keep most of my work work on a flash drive, so the size of the hd doesn't bother me to much.

HP Pavilion DV6-1354US 15.6-Inch Black Laptop

I purchased model DV6-1354US with 500gb hard drive and 6 cell battery. I use this laptop for editing photos with Adobe Photoshop CS4, as well as editing audio with Adobe Audition 2.0.

I have a five year old HP laptop running XP and it is still going strong. Despite outsourced Indian phone support, I was able to communicate support issues effectively. I am confident in future hardware performance and support from HP.

Transition from XP to Windows 7 was intuitive. The new taskbar is my favorite improvement. Followed by much better graphic interface and widgets. Some of my XP software causes Windows 7 to turn off Aero mode. I feel that windows has caught up with Apple in terms of graphics and workflow.

As far as laptop is concerned, Dave from Portland has a great review comparing the different models available on Amazon. The DV6-1354US is sufficient for me to use Adobe Photoshop and Audition, as well as multitask.

I will never go to a laptop again without a numeric keypad, this was an unexpected plus. I do miss the old HP media controls above the keyboard. They are replaced now by a volume and wireless control. I like that they are no longer buttons but touch sensitive surfaces above the keyboard.

The DV6 is quieter and cooler than my old HP. The power cord is beefier, which was always a problem with my old HP. Although I would prefer a magnetic power cord like Apple offers. Compared to other manufacturers, I would have to say that HP has the best price for great, reliable hardware.

Everything is a wonderful improvement except for the sound. Frequently, friends would ask where the music was coming from when I used my old DV1000. I felt that the sound was very rich for such a small system. I find the DV6 to have a much shallower, smaller sound that finds trouble filling a bedroom. For this reason, I drop the DV6 to four stars.

Also, the DV6 doesn't come with recovery disks. You need 3 DVD+R or -R (not RW) disks to create your own.

Overall, I really enjoy this computer, and probably will continue to enjoy it for another 5 to 7 years until RAM is in petabytes and laptops cook dinners. If I had to do it again I would still choose it over an Acer, Asus, Dell, Mac, or Sony.
